Build your Geocache

Ensure you use something watertight and durable to withstand the harsh outdoors. Clearly mark it as a Geocache to prevent accidental disposal. Include a notepad for visitors to write their names, and feel free to add other trinkets for trading.

Finding good places to hide a Geocache

A good spot is typically near a trail, ensuring it's not too close or too far for a standard geocache hide. Always adhere to geocaching guidelines and any local regulations. Using a separate GPS app to obtain coordinates can assist others in locating your cache.

Place the Geocache and post it!

Once you've found the right spot, place the geocache and use the Geocache app or website to post it. If you don't have service, a separate GPS app can be helpful for obtaining coordinates. After posting, a reviewer will approve it, and then others can begin searching for your hide!

Engaging with the community

This is possibly the most exciting aspect of geocaching, where people go out to find something you've hidden. It's a wonderful feeling when the first person discovers your geocache. If you're lucky, as I was, others will find your geocache and express their gratitude by creating one in return. This is what makes geocaching so special it is the connections you form and the friendships you build while sharing a common interest.
